Band of the Day 10/14/10: Elizabeth & The Catapult

Posted on 14 October 2010 by Mylynda Guthrie

I feel all too often (or perhaps not enough? eh??) I tend to choose my bands based on how “cute” they are. I get really excited about a good, quirky band photo from a fresh group. If you have a friendly looking chick smiling in a circle of her messy-haired male cohorts, I am at least willing to check out a song or two in order to see if I can get on this cute, happy bandwagon with you. Thus, it’s no surprise that I am feeling all sorts of excited about Elizabeth & The Catapult lately – they are exactly as cute + talented as I could hope for.

Just look at these mugs:

You may have heard of this band before due to their fabulous indie-pop debut Taller Children. They have a new release coming out Oct. 25, and the hype has officially been building.
Contributor and pal of Indie College, Stephanie Jones, had this to say in a recent review on “Ziman’s luscious voice gracefully guides us through lyrics that often times sound as though she ripped them straight from her personal journal.  Her classical piano training shines in many tracks but does not overcrowd the album, allowing Elizabeth to highlight its layers and distinguish itself  from just another singer/songwriter collection of musicians.” (Read the rest of the review here).

Also, feel free to send your suggestions for Band of the Day along with a short paragraph about why the band effin’ rules, and we’ll (more than likely) feature it! Email
